Dear Editor,
After attending the UAF hockey game on Saturday, December 1st and watching the Tradition Stone make a couple of laps around the Carlson Center Ice rink between the second and third periods, I was very disappointed to not see it mentioned anywhere in the school paper, particularly the article about the game. The game was fun to watch, but seeing the Stone again was a real kick.
It seemed to me that after all the coverage and controversy surrounding the stone, particularly the comments published in the Sun Star, there might be something written about its first appearance since then. Maybe if there had been firefighters or a car chase involved, Ms. Westfall might have been more inclined to include the Stone in her article.
I was under the impression that the primary reason to pursue and possess the Stone (besides the fun and shady antics), was to flaunt it and covet it, not whine about one group having it, then ignore it when someone else gets it.
If there is one venue to objectively follow these shenanigans, it should be school paper. If the only news people hear about the Stone is the controversy and animosity surrounding it, that is all it’s going to be about. I expected more from the Sun Star than that.
