Dear Editor,
My name is Brandon Meston and I would like to introduce myself and Adrian Triebel as potential candidates for ASUAF President and Vice President in the upcoming student government election.
Our mission is primarily to bring back the power of the student voice to UAF, which has significantly decreased in recent years.
We plan to unite Club Council early in an effort to get clubs represented in all UAF Traditions. Traditions should not solely be the responsibility of UAF Departments, nor should they be limited to their current form. We would also provide opportunities for clubs to promote themselves and fundraise so that more events could be offered throughout the year for students and the community.
We also plan to actively reinvigorate the recently deceased Student Saver Program, which provides discounts around town for students. We believe that the students’ contributions to the community are many and that students should be rewarded for them.
We would also like to continue efforts to promote the university at all levels of government and seek a resolution to affordability issues. With this being an election year, it is imperative that the students and the university are top priorities for candidates.
Were more words allowed in this letter, we would provide more detailed plans to promote a greater student voice on campus and in the community. Since there’s not, you will be hearing more from us as the election approaches.
We appreciate your support in our efforts to increase the student voice on campus.
Brandon Meston
Candidate for ASUAF President
Dear Editor,
Now that four big bad winters have come and gone and Steve Jones finds himself in need of a new calling, I wonder: Maybe he could take Hamilton with him? Or how about grabbing a handful of six-figure vice presidents on your way out the door? Four years on, and with all our new student fees, we know we can show some measure of success. The hockey team has a new name and at least we can say that we do it like everybody else in the 48. Mission accomplished.
P.S. Can we please hire from in-house, or at least in-state?
J. Brian Horton
