Maymester offers students core credits in two weeks

May 10 is the last day of classes for the spring semester, but two days later, one of the quickest ways to get credits kicks off.

Maymester started last year and was a hit with the professors and the students that participated. It is a two-week intensive course during which students have class everyday. Classes start immediately and provide three credits. To attend classes, “you have to hit the ground running” said Florie Wilcoxson, Associate Director of Summer Sessions.

There were 69 students last year, for the program’s inaugural session. Wilcoxson also said, “we project 10 percent or more to attend this year”

Because classes are intensive semester long classes packed into two weeks, students can only take one class. Classes offered include basic core class requirements that students perhaps couldn’t fit in during the semester.

There is the need to contact professors to know what books to get and what to read before classes start. Everyday is class and “everyone is exhausted by the end of the semester,” said Mary Calmes, the summer sessions administrative assistant, “it was a good exhausted though.”

Maymester is an opportunity to get credits that students need for core classes quickly.

Classes fill up quickly, so interested students, should sign up soon. Registration and payment needs to be completed by May 9.
