The advent of spring has also brought a lot of exciting developments on campus.
Doc DelCastillo resignation
I offer my apologies to readers that the coverage of this resig-nation is somewhat vague and non-conclusive. We have a good reason to believe that there is more to the story than what the press release says, but are waiting for conclusive, willing sources to tell this story.
Hockey coach, Doc DelCastillo’s resignation has caused a stir among local media. “The Daily Newsminer” wrote an article about his “uncertain plans” early in the week and his resignation was announced on Apr. 11. Last year, hockey coach, Tavis MacMillan’s resignation was big news. Shortly following the announcement, there was a press conference.
DelCastillo had no press conference.
After the announcement, the Sun Star tried to contact him via his cell number that reporters have been using all year. The message said that he was no longer using the number and to contact him via UAF webmail. He never responded.
The sports department is tight-lipped about his resignation, and we are currently looking to follow up on some tips we have heard about. On Friday, the Sun Star submitted a records request for information that may help us to understand the situation more thoroughly.
New Chancellor
Over a week ago, president Hamilton announced the candidates for next year’s interim chancellor. This is exciting news since a chancellor has the ability to affect a lot of what happens around the university. I think that both of the candidates are good choices for UAF. They know the university well and have shown their dedication through ongoing involvement here since they were students.
