Skiers fare well at U.S. Skiing Championships

Over break, the Nanook ski team faced off against some of the toughest competition ever.

Not only did they face off against collegiate skiing’s greatest, but against the country’s best skiers, including Olympians and other members of the U.S. National team.

In early January, the team spent eight days in Houghton, Mich.; four of those days were spent competing.

Vahur Teppan fared best for the Nanooks, taking the bronze in the men’s sprints. However, since he is from Estonia, and not the U.S., he was not awarded a medal.

Other impressive finishes came from Marius Korthauer, who took fifth in the men’s freestyle 10-K and sixth in the 15-K classic, in which Teppan took 15th.

For the women, Julia Coulter finished in 15th place in the 5-kilometer freestyle, less than 20 seconds behind Alaskan olympian Kikkan Randall.

Teppan and Korthauer took fourth in the men’s team relay, but were first among college teams.
