Faculty Athletics Representative in support of new student fee

Guest opinion on proposed new athletic fee.

Fee Me

For years, UAF’s athletics department has been in fiscal trouble, struggling to meet the financial needs of Division I and II programs at a small public university. The department has simply been spending more money than it gets and digging itself deeper into debt...

Because I fly away for the bulk of the holiday season, I have never spent Christmas in Fairbanks. When the chill is especially nasty, I equate it with the land of Narnia from the book, “The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe,” where the cute forest critters complain that the witch has outlawed winter-time festivities. “It’s always winter and never Christmas,” they say sadly.

Dear Editor,

After attending the UAF hockey game on Saturday, December 1st and watching the Tradition Stone make a couple of laps around the Carlson Center Ice rink between the second and third periods, I was very disappointed to not see it mentioned anywhere in the school paper, particularly the article about the game. The game was fun to watch, but seeing the Stone again was a real kick.

If the meltdown continues, the world as we know it will eventually (we are not sure when) erupt in wild state of pandemonium.

Dear Editor:

Four years ago, I unexpectedly found myself in the role of single mother.  I determined that the best thing I could do was return to college and finish my degree.  I chose UAF because of the programs offered, on-campus family housing, and most importantly because of Bunnell House, the on-campus daycare/lab school.

Global Warming, No Problem

Yes, I believe that humans are contributing to this global warming thing, but for Fairbanks I do not see this as a bad thing.

Trash Talk

Dumpster diving is a lot more fun than shopping in Fairbanks. Generally, there is better variety. It is a lot cheaper, and there is the added excitement relevant to yard sales and treasure hunts where you never know what you are going to find. It is a system that works for a lot of people.
